Abstract
Focus of the presented work is the temperature influence on the formation of boundary layers on bearing washers under oil lubrication. The boundary film has a major role in wear protection. It could be proven, that in dependence of the temperature the bearing life can be increased. To conclude on the specific influence of the boundary layers, the layers were analysed by their micro-tribological and chemical properties. For this purpose nanoindentational, nanoscratch, and pin-on-disk tests were performed. Additional the chemical composition was analysed by ToF-SIMS measurements. The surfaces were investigated after failure or after passing a bearing fatigue life test. For the test axial bearings were used. Due to the varied temperature different boundary layers were generated on the bearings. Even in dependence of the position on the bearings the formation of specific boundary layers was detected. The micro-tribological properties and the chemical composition of the boundary layers were detected and set in relation to each other in dependence of the specific test temperature.
