Inhalt Zusammenfassung

Abstract
PTFE is compounded as solid-film lubricant into thermoplastic high performance polymers, to significantly improve their tribological properties with respect to friction and wear. The achievable effect for improving such properties by using modified PTFE is not only determined by the percentage of PTFE in the compound but rather by the possibility to couple the PTFE chemically to the matrix, thereby obtaining compatibilized polymer-PTFE compounds of constant processing morphology. Such compounds show superior tribological properties when compared to purely physical mixtures of thermoplatics with PTFE. A possible way to introduce reactive centers into the PTFE for a chemical coupling is the pretreatment with electron or gamma radiation. In studies with radiationmodified PTFE and recycled PTFE as solid-film lubricant component in PEEK, PPS und PSU, it was found that parameters of the PTFE micropowder such as sort and amount of functional groups, molecular weight, particle size and particle-size distribution, which can be adjusted via the irradiation conditions, have an influence on mechanical and tribological characteristics.
